Monday, September 2  - No School 

NLCA Twirlers:
A meeting and sign-up's will be be held Tuesday, September 3 from 3-4 PM (immediately after school) The meeting will be held in the new gym for girls of all grades!
(Twirlers will be participating in the Potato Festival.  If you are not at the meeting, you will not be able to participate in the parade.)

1.  Students will have a verbal test EACH Friday on a Bible verse. 
This week's Bible verse will be:  "A" All have sinned and come short of the glory of God  
~Romans 3:23

2.  Please return students folders daily.

3.  Students need gym shoes everyday.  If you would like to send an extra pair to be kept at school you are more than welcome to do so.

4.  Students need headphones that can be kept at school for our ipad time

5.  If you feel your child may need a change of clothes, please include in backpack to stay at school.

6.  Please remember pick up line starts at 2:45.  Public bus cannot get through parking lot when line has already formed.

DISCIPLINE POLICY:

        We have a "clip" chart to monitor behavior.  Each child starts on the green section "ready to learn" daily.  If a student hurts another child, does not follow classroom rules or is disrespectful, the child will have to clip down to yellow "slow down" and loses 5 minutes of recess. 
If the child repeats or breaks another rule, he/she will clip down again to orange "think about it" and loses 10 minutes of recess.  If behavior involves hurting another child, they will lose their extra curricular activity. 
If a third offense occurs, he/she will have to clip down to red " oh no! stop!" and will lose half of recess, entire extra curricular activity, visit the principal and guardian will be contacted.
        Student's are also rewarded for good behavior.  The student can clip up to purple "great effort" and receive a piece of candy at the end of the day. 
Student's can clip up again to pink "role model"  and receive a piece of candy and a prize from the treasure box.

I cant believe we are going into our final week of school! This class has been such a blessing to come to know and teach.  

Wednesday, May 15, we will be going on a field trip to the Road Side Park.  We will arrive at the park by 10:00 and stay until approximately 1:30.  A pizza lunch will be provided.

Thursday, May 16, we are planning a fun water day!  The water fun will take place at the school (weather permitting).  Please send a towel and a change of dry clothes.  

Both permission slips were sent home in their folders so please try to get those back as quickly as possible.  

Friday, May 17, is Graduation Day!!  The ceremony will begin at 1:00 so PLEASE have your child at the school at 12:30.  We will be meeting in the small classroom over in the new gym.  (The same place we were for the Christmas play)

I pray that everyone has an amazing, blessed break!  I'm not assigning any homework BUT 😊 if you have an opportunity to read a little I think it would be highly beneficial.  

Time is going by so quickly.  When we return from break, graduation will only be three weeks away.  Kindergarten's ceremony will be held on Friday, May 17, at 1 pm.

Monday our school will be hosting a Health and Wellness Fair.  A paper was sent home giving details about the event and also asking if you would like for your child to participate in the glucose screening.  If you wish for them to do so please return the signed form with your child on Monday.

Tuesday, April 9, is our field trip to Kidaroos.  In your child's folder you will find a paper with directions.  If you haven't given me an answer as to whether your child will be riding school transportation please let know no later then Monday.  Also, I will need to know from everyone if you plan to meet us at the school to follow us or if you plan to meet us at Kidaroos.

Pre-K and Kindergarten will be taking a field trip on Tuesday, April 9th.  The permission slips and details about the trip were sent home earlier this week.  Please try to return the forms as quickly as possible so we are able to make proper transportation arrangements.

We will be starting our final special sound chart.  The last list of special sounds have been put in their folders, along with the other ones, for any additional practice you wish to do at home.

On Monday, March 18th, there will be a second opportunity for Pre-K and Kindergarten registration for the 2019-2020 school year.  Registration will be from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm.  Please bring the student's social security card, live birth certificate and updated shot records.  The registration fee will be $125.00

The end of the third nine weeks will be Monday, March 18th.  Student's report cards will go home the following day March 19th. 

We are moving along with our special sounds!  We have almost completed our second chart and will be moving onto our third and final chart by the end of the week.  Please continue to keep up all the hard work and extra practice with the special sounds and their reading books.  

The bible verse for the week will be:  "X" Exceeding great and precious promises are given unto us.  ~ 2 Peter 1:4

Its Dr Seuss week! Last week I posted how to dress each day if your child wishes to do so. 

Pre-K and Kindergarten enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year will be Monday, March 1st, beginning at 8:00 am util 2:30 pm.  As required, we ask you bring the student's social security card, live birth certificate, updated shot records.  The registration fee will be $125.00  

We started on a new special sound chart, which you can find a copy of in your child's folder.  The class has now made it all the way to special sound "dr" in drum!  Please keep practicing and keep up all the great work in those reading books!!

The new bible verse for the week will be:  "W" What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.  ~Psalm 56:3

       Kindergarten has had a very busy week! The students have done a fantastic job learning all their new concepts. They have learned how to count by 5's and count by 10's, they know how much a penny, dime, and our newest coin learned, a nickle is worth. Our latest special sound is "th" in this. A copy of our special sound chart will be sent home in each student's folder. Students have also learned half past the hour when telling time. This week's work introduced many new concepts. Any extra practice at home will help the students progress in their school work, and keep up the great reading practice. 

Dr. Seuss week will be March 4th-8th. 
Mixed up Monday: Wear mixed up clothing. (shirtsbackwards, inside out, mixed matched shoes, etc.)

Top Hat Tuesday: Wear your favorite hat.

Wacky Wednesday: Wear your wackiest socks!

Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday, February 18, from 4:00-6:30 p.m.  

We will be going to the Book Fair next week.  A yellow note will be in your child's folder with a link if you would like to shop online.  Also, parents are welcome to come and go with the class.  Our whole class will go on Monday & Tuesday from (8:10-8:30).  Only those with money will go on Wednesday-Friday (8:10-8:30).  It will also be open to families on Monday-Wednesday (2:30-3:30) and Saturday (1:00-4:00). 
The kids are excited about our new reward system and earning their "K-5 Bucks"!

Kindergarten did AMAZING singing their song for homecoming!! I'm so proud of everyone!

Next week, Kindergarten will be having a Valentine’s Day party on Thursday.  During the party, the kids will be exchanging valentines that they need to bring in no later than Wednesday, the 13th.  The class has the option of buying a “mailbox” for the valentines they receive, or if this is something yo would rather not purchase, the children can use the “pouch” they made in art class.  If either the valentines or mailbox is a hardship on anyone, please send me a private message, and I will gladly help!

A list of special sounds will be in their folders so you can practice, practice, practice! Special sounds are learned by memorization, so any extra help at home will really help move their reading skills along quickly.

 Congratulations we have completed the second 9 weeks of the school year!! Report Cards will be sent home this Monday. As we begin the 3rd nine weeks of the year, please keep in mind that this is the most challenging quarter of the year. They will be learning the most concepts, and will begin having weekly homework assignments. 
 Reading books will need to be brought back everyday. The students will have reading homework at least 2 days a week. It is very important for them to have their books to get homework assignments and to be able to read in class. A reading guide will be sent home which helps guide parents and students on different concepts the students have been taught such as:sight words, how to mark vowels, etc. Please keep this sheet in their folder at all times. 

Coming up: over the next few weeks, the entire student body of NLCA will be reading the book "Because of Winn-Dixie" We will be having activity week January 28th - February 1st. If you would like to be involved during the activities throughout this week please message me to let me know.
